Sailfest 2007... the long tradition of going to the Groton-New London fireworks has continued... and what a show. Last year, we were sitting on a private pier as we gazed at the illuminated sky. This year we were truly unsure of where to watch the show... with Evan in tow. For those who have met Evan, you know he's a pretty laid back kid, but would the loud booms make his cry if we by the water....well we were going to see.
So off we went... Dan, Evan, myself, Joel, Emma and Dan's parents (Frank and Jeanette). It was only about a 30min walk or so and the streets weren't that crowded... we sat on the curb in front of Garbo Lobster and Joel and Emma sat above us on the wall of Sound Medical. We were worried... about 50/50... but as we looked around, we were in the kid zone... from 3month old to 5yr old... and we had a quick exit route planned... if needed...
And no, it wasn't needed. Evan in his usual self was absorbed in the newness of it all... the crowds, the neon flashing lights of the wands and swords and playboy bunny ears (look at the crowd in the photo--neon green). As the first rocket went up, Evan followed the colorful lights. The child in front of us cried and buried her head into her mom's shoulder and Evan just stared... then he'd turn his head and suck his thumb (as to re-energize b/c it was past his bedtime). It was a great first for Evan.... as he enjoyed watching the rest of the show.
And now we are off to Harry Potter!!!! without Evan of course...
